The Jethart Callant for 2025 is Lewis Ronald Turnbull – a proud young Jedburgh man whose roots run deep in the tradition and spirit of the Festival.
Lewis follows a strong family legacy, with three Ex-Callants before him: his Great Uncle, Ex-Callant William Sinton (1973); his Uncle, Ex-Callant Derek Sinton (1997); and his cousin, Ex-Callant Ross Sinton (1999). Inspired by their example, Lewis first rode out with the Festival in 2014, earned his Redeswire badge in 2016, and last followed on horseback in 2023.

A former pupil of Parkside Primary and Jedburgh Grammar School, Lewis began working weekends at Woodside Garden Centre before starting his apprenticeship with Scott & Foggon in 2017. He qualified as an electrician in 2021 and continued in the role until late 2024, when he and his partner Katie embarked on a new adventure. The pair travelled the East Coast of Australia from Melbourne to Cairns and spent five months living and working in Perth before Lewis returned home – ready to embrace the honour of becoming Jethart Callant for 2025.

Lewis is well known locally for his sporting talent, having played rugby for Jed Minis, Jed Thistle, and eventually for Jed-Forest – including being part of the squad that won the Peebles 7s in 2019. In recent years, he made the switch to football and now plays for Ancrum AFC.

Friendly, grounded, and committed to his hometown, Lewis carries the spirit of Jethart with him in all he does. We are proud to welcome him into this historic role.
